RIP Isabel

Isabel was dumped in the holding cages outside the pound in the middle of winter. She was old and very sad. By the time she left the pound she had a terrible cough. She was cared for in Mildura by Janelle who fed her toast (and other little things she seemed to love) until she could come to Melbourne to her new home with Kathy. When Kathy picked her up she still had her cough, so she sent her own dogs to a relatives so she could tend to Isabel. Isabel was lovingly nursed back to health until she was strong enough to have her infected teeth operated on.

Her teeth were so bad that she also needed plastic surgery for a hole through to her nasal passages. We think Isabel must have belonged to an older person and had certainly been loved in her time. Perhaps she lived with someone who then died or moved to a nursing home and the relatives left her outside the pound in the freezing cold. An all too common story unfortunately.

Isabel had her good and bad days, and motored quietly around her new home. She became best friends with Wuppy Woo who had lost his life long companion Skinnydog a few months after Isabel's arrival. Naturally he bonded and adored Isabel immediately she arrived but even more so upon Skinnydog's passing. He has searched high and low for Isabel and is now just staying by himself up in Kathy’s bedroom. He appears to be mourning terribly. Last night he went out in the dark and simply lay where she would go to sit outside during the day.

Little Isabel battled her health problems but her organs failed. She had seven months with Kathy, being so spoilt and loved. Her ashes will be spread in the garden (see photo above) in her favourite spot.

Like the heavenly scent of a rose that remains after the petals have wilted, this Love will remain and grow--and be there for us to remember. It is a love we have earned. It is the legacy our pets leave us when they go. And it is a Greeting we may keep with us as long as we live. It is a Love which is ours is a Love we will always possess.
